Thank you Grimethorpe.
I can hardly remember writing it. I know I lost the text about 10% of the way in, and had to re-write the first section. I wrote it because I felt so helpless, and realised that - as I say in the entry - I have to start where I am.
Have you tried doing it? If you do - (when you do) - be kind to yourself. Take it short and easy at first.
I am doing it daily at the moment, which is not something I have done before, and I am finding it not just helpful, but enjoyable too. Some days it is easier to do than others.
If you feel like emailing to others' please do so.
Take care
Ben

I'm too jumpy and nervous to meditate these days - and I also drink, which for me makes meditation impossible.
Still, I used to meditate and so I recognised the absolute authenticity of what you say.
meditation masters don't take students who are in a turmoil, like I am, because meditation can make it worse. I still gained peace just by reading the article.
Peace,
Grime

Well, if you cannot meditate - then just breathe a bit.
They are called 'spirits' for a reason, btw. I once heard a song called God Loves A Drunk on the radio - it moved me to tears in memory of my friend Neil who died, and my mother. I think it was the one by Richard Thompson, which I have just found online.
"But a drunk's only trying to get free of his body
And soar like an eagle high up there in heaven
His shouts and his curses they are just hymns and praises
To kick-start his mind now and then"
Not to say that you are a drunk, just to say that there is a reason for everything under the sun.
Take care, and don't forget to breathe.

Thanks again, Ben
I'm not really a drunk, I just find that drinking spoils the basic clarity of mind needed to even begin meditating - the effect lasts for days.
I know the Richard Thompson song, and I love the truth in that verse. Drunks are often very near to God, nearer than most, because of the way they are as well as the way God is.

I didn't mean you are a drunk. Hell I get nervous telling the doc how much I drink.
"Drunks are often very near to God, nearer than most, because of the way they are as well as the way God is."
How few people understand the last part of that sentance. Hey, the very first miracle, Jesus changed water into wine.
Take care, and have one on me,
B
