An article about the America's Cup Jubilee recently held in Cowes.

A splendid overview BB.

As a New Zealander, I have a few problems with your coverage of the winners and defenders. I believe you need to give more prominence to the three nations that have actually won it - USA, Australia and NZ, and the two nations that have successfully defended it - USA and NZ.

In particular more emphasis needs to be accredited to the mighty efforts of tiny New Zealand in the mega-dollar world of America's Cup racing. that, historicall,y has been dominated by super rich tycoons.

But then I would say that

As a non New Zealander, I would feel that as the article is about the Jubilee that occured at Cowes. Therefore, the only relevant points are those that are Cowes related, which are:
The original race which took place at Cowes,
The Jubilee, which took place at Cowes.
The Cowes-based Royal Yacht Squadron (at Cowes Castle) and the Cowes-based team, GBR Challenge.

As for more emphasis on New Zealand's part - consider this my revenge on one of the few approved articles which really angered me:

an article that's supposedly on The America's Cup, but concentrates entirely on New Zealand's recent achievements, and ignores the other 140+ years entirely, and did not mention Cowes once!* I mentioned that New Zealand are the current cup holders 4 times, and had a whole subheader & text dedicated to the Australia II. Was I writing about the cup itself, I would have written much more about the New York Yacht Club, New Zealand and Australia, but I was writing about the Jubilee instead, an event which celebrated the 150th Anniversary of the original race, and largely ignored the 149 years inbetween.

I'll try to rethink the opening paragraph, though.

*There is definately room in the guide for the mighty efforts of tiny New Zealand in the mega-dollar world of America's Cup racing. that, historically has been dominated by super rich tycoons - in fact, I see it as proof that the even tinier Isle of Wight has a chance of winning the cup back. If the article had been "New Zealand And The America's Cup" I would applaud it, but as an article on "The America's Cup" it is almost entirely incomplete and inaccurate, apart from the events of the last decade.

I like this entry, it's interesting to read about what the people of the IoW feel about these multi million pound regattas

You'll be pleased to know that the other entry is linked to in my article, Looney.
I'm sure that as every patriotic New Zealander would be proud of that article, but I feel it's not splendid - according to it, last month's 150th Jubilee won't be until 2007!
But then, this is the Peer Review for this article, not the other....

Would you like me to post a list of the yachts/countries that have entered the next regatta?

It may be worth emphasising that in recent times the best (most competitive) racing has been for Louis Vuitton (sp) Cup. The actual Americ's Cup races have tended to be pretty one-sided..

I'm planning on getting a proper America's Cup article put through soon anyway, including all 150 years of the sport, and this will probably be through the update entries page, so the existing one can wait for then.
An article on the L.V. Cup would definately be a good idea. If you'd like to post a list of the yachts & countries that have entered the next regatta, that would help for future articles on the cup, and definately be an interesting read.
It wouldn't really affect this article, though, as this article is about an event that has happened, and the future is largely irrelevant.

This is one of the best entries I've seen here on h2 - it's thorough and interesting.

I remember that very well. I tried to buy red socks for my crew for a local overnight regatta here - just for fun. Couldn't find any. I hear that red socks and even red dye, was sold out in NZ after you won?

And then, after the regatta, shock, horror, one of the NZ tabloid newspapers broke the story that most of the 'lucky red socks' were imported from Indonesia where they had been produced in 'Nike-style sweat-shops'
