The five towns
hovisbunloaf Posted Feb 19, 2010
I was actually googling that exact phrase and came across this discussion. My grandmother used it for exactly the same purpose. She came from a Lincolnshire family. Have absolutely no idea what it relates to though. In my childish mind it was always associated with the River Witham flowing through the centre of Lincoln and particularly the High Bridge!
Another word I used as a child but haven't heard since was 'Kecksy' for cow parsley

The H2G2 Editors Posted Feb 22, 2010
Hello and welcome to h2g2, hovisbunloaf. When I hear old words like 'Kecksy' used for plants and herbs and stuff, it transports me back to a forgotten pre-industrial agricultural past. I come over all 'Larkrise to Candleford'. Actually, there's a lovely book I read once on the subject of oral traditions and our agricultural past called 'Pattern Under The Plough' by George Ewart Evans.
