I find that hard to believe after all that, but we'll have to take your word for it!

It is true, according to the Oracle. But George Bush senior has a Bacon number of two! smiley - smiley

Mr Prophet (General Purpose Genre Guru)

It's all a matter of being in a film which appears on the IMDb, as that's what informs the Oracle of Bacon. Trotsky did some film work during his time in exile, pre-ice pick obviously.

Blair has an infinity because he's not in any films.

The Iron Maiden is in Some Mother's Son, a film about the IRA hunger strikes if I recall. The IMDb lists her as 'herself (uncredited)', probably meaning she was in archive footage from the period used in the film. Bit of a cheat perhaps, but its there. The link also runs through My Dog Skip, and is 3 links long.

George Bush Sr was in Under Siege, I'm guessing in much the same way. Likewise Clinton in Contact.

Ronald Reagan incidentally does not link through either My Dog Skip, or any films from his acting career, as he was in a documentary about a Democratic National Convention (bizzarely enough), called The Last Party.

Actually, you can get all sorts from this. Bill Clinton and family, the Gores, the Quayles. It's allstar. I'm just amazed it didn't have Kevin Bacon himself in it, then the majority of the American political arena would have a Bacon number of 1.

Incidentally, and fairly pointlessly, I found out about Trotsky's Bacon number through an article entitled 'Six Degrees of Sir Francis Bacon', which suggested a similar game for connecting all conspiracy theories and occult secret societies to 16th-17th century politician, occultist and professional conspirator, Sir Francis Bacon.

Kevin Bacon's Sir Francis Bacon number is 2.

The Prophet.

Thank you, Azara! smiley - biggrin Me as a regular h2g2 smiley - nurse of fallen Entries? Well, I have had two Entries that I took over after the original authors lost interest approved this week, so I suppose you're right! smiley - ok

I have a couple of ideas of my own for new Entries that I'd like to work on before I do any more salvage jobs. That said, there's an Entry on Moloko (the band) that's just arrived in the Flea Market that I am tempted by. I'll probably leave it for a month or so and see if anyone else picks it up, but if not I'll probably be donning my nurse's uniform again! smiley - smiley

That's one reason I haven't commented on more of your entries - if I see that an entry is about a band I just go smiley - bleep straight on the unsubscribe button! smiley - winkeye

When I looked through the Flea Market, I'm afraid that the only ones I knew anything about were so flippant or cynical in tone that I'd end up doing a completely new entry rather than polishing up the one that was there. I'll have another look at some stage, though.

That's very interesting, Azara! I have had a feeling at times that music Entries weren't all that popular on h2g2. I remember being amazed one day when I saw the Entry on 'Oasis - the Band' in the 'Most Neglected' list!

Why don't you like band Entries? Are you just not a popular music fan?

Okay, I wrote this article a while ago, & posted it on 'My Space', but it got rejected because it contained web links... So I re-wrote it without them & put it back in, only to find that someone else had already done this for me (hence me deleting it again). Didn't go AWOL (honest!). Thanks for saying you liked it - it's the first time I've written one of these... wasn't entirely sure that anyone would ever read it!

(Ps - Did think of adding a health warning to this game.. it's dangerously addictive!)

Ormondroyd, I lost interest in popular music a long time ago - it's not that there's anything wrong with the band entries! I think there's actually a fairly good spread of entries on both popular and classical music - I think it's areas like traditional music or jazz that are under-represented. And I think the curse of 'most neglected' can strike entries in almost any field: if there's been a long discussion in Peer Review, then an entry may not attract comment when it hits the Front Page - the 'most neglected' seems to be a matter of whether there are any attached conversations or not.

Divine Dante, I'm glad you're still around! Congratulations on producing such a worthwile entry - don't be shy about putting your next entries into Peer Review, you can obviously reach the right standard.

Thanks, Azara, though I have to admit I'm a bit 'peeved' (least obscene word I could think of) that my name is no longer down as the author/researcher. I wasn't aware that authorship was something that could be changed after a piece is written... (seems especially rich when you consider how many warnings against plagiarising there here).
I was quite proud of this - as I said it's the first thing I've written - but it's really put me off writing anything else.

I don't think it's fair or right to erase someone's right to be acknowledged as the author of the piece just because they aren't taking part in a conversation or have not put anything up on their page - that doesn't mean they are not still reading the HG2G or have ceased in some mysterious way to be the author.

Anyway - sorry to interrupt the conversation (just needed to rant a bit!)

If you do a search, it will list two versions: one says recommended next to it(not sure how all this peer review thingy works..) & that's the one that doesn't even have me down as a researcher!

But - ahem - if I'm wrong (& that's never happened before!) VERY VERY sorry for ranting... will go hide in a hole somewhere now...

smiley - sadface My apologies. DD - you are quite correct.

I don't know why it is, but the h2g2 system somehow seems to keep breaking down when Entries with more than one author make it to the Edited Guide. For some reason, they often seem to end up with only one of the authors credited.

This is the second time in the past month that I've been the embarrassed, unwilling 'beneficiary' of one of these blunders, being credited as sole writer on something I'd only co-written. I've been on the other side of a similar mistake, too, with my name disappearing from the credits on an Entry I'd co-authored.

The case of the 'Kevin Bacon' Entry is particularly odd because I had an e-mail from the sub-editor working on the Entry, asking who besides me had been involved in writing it, and I sent the sub your User Number. Also, the Edited version should have appeared in the list of my Entries on my user page, and it hasn't. It's been a complete smiley - bleep-up all round.

Please stick around. I'll draw the attention of the Editors to this problem, and hopefully it'll be fixed. It really is serious, because people like yourself are understandably put off the site when due credit isn't given. smiley - cross

Thank's so much for looking into this - have to admit I over-reacted just a little 'cos I was annoyed... However, have calmed down now!!

PS - really liked the additions you made; thank's for taking the time & trouble to do them. I've now become re-obsessed trying to think of all the historical non-actor igures who've appeared in films... & I thought I'd finally managed to break free!

Hi folks,

You have, in fact, uncovered a bug in the system. Ormy created the entry, and presumably added Divine Dante to the list of contributing Researchers in the Edit Entry window. For some reason, when the copy of the entry was made (after having been recommended by a Scout), that information was not automatically transferred to the copy, so Divine Dante was left off.

Thanks for bringing our attention to this problem. We've alerted Jim to it, and he'll look into it when he has a moment. Our apologies for any confusion this may have caused.

Linus has, it seems, already added Divine Dante's name back to the copy (as he's subbing it at the moment) - thanks Linus! smiley - smiley

Hi, Divine Dante!
I'm glad to see that the bug has been noticed, and you've now got proper recognition. I hope that you'll come up with some equally interesting contributions in the future.
See you around!
