Most things die because blood or a general vascolary system shuts down and the cells lose oxygen and glucose. Unless the creature in question is a plant (a tree), a plant/animal creature (a bulbasaur)or an alien which is non-corperal such as the clouds of Duboudri VII which is rather nippy (Chily/cold)planet anyway, so any warm blooded creatures will boil to death.

"The Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy is a wholly remarkable book. It has been compiled and recompiled many times and under many different editorships. It contains contributions from countless numbers of travellers and researchers."
