This is true, and good thing.
And now I'm thinking of Whitman's poem, 'When Lilacs Last in the Dooryard Bloomed'.

It's a shame about Lincoln - he was one the finest - but some people did regard him as a tyrant for such actions as placing Baltimore under martial law.
There's an old song to the tune 'Bonnie Dundee' that goes 'There's a man in the White House with blood on his mouth, be there knaves in the North, there are braves in the South...' (Unfortunate combination of sectionalism and displaced Highlanders from the '45.)
