I am currently going through this ordeal with Bell's Palsy and would like as many people to know about it as possible.

Hi, Wink!
I see from your home space that you are fairly new to h2g2, so welcome, and congratulations on producing such an interesting entry for your first venture into Peer Review.

Many people put their entries into Guide ML, but yours is very clearly laid out and it is easy to see where a sub-editor would put headers and bulletted lists, so I don't think that is any problem.

Use of the first person is normally discouraged, but I think your entry fits into the exception, where the author's own experience is an important part of the whole message. I notice, though, that it's really own the first paragraph where you are writing about yourself, and a sub-editor may choose to put that in italics as 'one researcher's experience', and keep the rest in the impersonal Edited Guide style.

Anyway, I think this is very well written - I think in the list of causes I would give each a line of its own, but that's the only noticeable change that I would feel is needed.
Good luck!
Azara

Hi Azara,
Thanks for the encouraging words. I spent a few days just being a silent viewer in here, looking at conversations and other researcher's journal and guide entries. I got a little blank on what to write. My journals are just gibberish. Then I got this injury and decided that I could write about it. I want to learn a little about the GuideML so I can make the entry more visually interesting.

I plan to write more. Especially now that I've got a little encouragement. Thanks again. I'll be checking out your space soon.

Oh this is good! I like this smiley - ok

I agree with Azara; GuideML would make this look wonderful, but the content is really good.

I'll keep checking back on this entry...I like already (first entry too? Praise is due!)

Stay smiley - cool,

Witty Ditty,
We almost have the same nickname. Mine's really quite simple, it's the name of my cat who passed away a few months ago. She's still a big part of me.

I want to thank you for reading my entry and giving me some feedback. I made the small changes I knew I could from Azara's initial feedback. I am attempting to try GuideML on my personal space and did a little bit for my intro. I can't seem to see my work though. I hope I've not done something wrong. There were a few little glitches to work out, but finally it seemed okay but I still can't see my work.

I'm going to try and put the guide entry in GuideML. I'm really a newbie at this. Thank you for the encouragement. I will come by the "Boutique" soon.

smiley - sadface Wink you can't see it at the moment.

I've seen this before. I tested the guideML of your page and everything is still there - I just think you haven't updated your page in to GuideML. When you edit your entry there is a little section below the text box which says 'Plain text (circle with dot in it) GuideML (circle) [CHANGE STYLE]Button.
You must click on the circle next to guideML making sure there's a black dot in there then click on Change style.

That's all you need to do as I couldn't see anything wrong with the guideML

BTW - to test the GuideML in someones user space just replace the U in the URL with testuserspace. ie. for mine instead of http://www.bbc.co.uk/2g2/guide/U94957 it becomes http://www.bbc.co.uk/h2g2/guide/testuserpage94957

For and ordinary article do the same thing but replace 'A' with 'test'

Anyway, having read the article using the test feature this is my critique... smiley - smiley

What is a trimester - sorry I'm not familiar with this term - is it american english? If so you should know that the guide must be written in British english smiley - erm
I would not abbreviate weeks to wks - just use the full word.

In your list you appear to not have fully understood the use of the and tags.
sets up an unnumbered (bulleted) list. Each item in this list must be between seperate tags.

Hence

Herpes Simplex 1 Stress
Lack of sleep
Upper Respiratory Infection
Rubella
Mumps
HIV/Aids
Lyme Disease
Otitis Media
Bilateral Palsy
Melkersson-Rosenthal Syndrome

Should become

Herpes Simplex1
Stress
Lack of sleep
Upper Respiratory Infection
Rubella
Mumps
HIV/Aids
Lyme Disease
Otitis Media
Bilateral Palsy
Melkersson-Rosenthal Syndrome

Similaraly with the next list.

Oh and there are too many tags at the end.
For every opened tag ( for example) there must be one closed tag - too many of either and you will get an error message.

Apart from that I can see no problem

Nice work - but please fix the guideML soon so others can read it more easily.

Orcus, I've just replied to this elsewhere, but I thought you might like to know, that the problem is the "extra" set of and tags. smiley - smiley

Thank you, Orcus, for your assistance and critique. I have corrected the GuideML problems and it is coming up beautifully now. Thank you for your help in that matter. I have also taken into consideration that some might not know the definition of a couple of words and have since added footnotes, defining "trimester" and sending interested parties to a website that I have found helpful in researching this particular condition. I have edited the piece and it's now again in Peer Review. Please, when you have time, come back by and take a look at the changes and let me know if there's anything else that you can think of that I could do to make it a bit better.

Again, I appreciate your assistance.

Wow!
I think you have made a really great job of the Guide ML, Wink - the entry looks even better than I expected! I think it would be a very worthwhile addition to the Edited Guide: I remember when I was a student and a fellow student developed Bell's Palsy - we were all quite confused as to how serious it would be, and this clear kind of information would have been very helpful.
Well done!

Now it's hidden smiley - cross

What on earth could possibly be against the house rules?

The only thing I can think of is you may have out a broken link in there. For some reason this leads to the entire entry being hidden these days.

*sigh*

Am I destined to ever see this entry in full technicolour?

You were right. It was a broken link. I removed it and now it's back up and running (hopefully).

Either that, or the rather odd looking "Two-Face" character from Batman comics! smiley - smiley Funny.

Thank you again for your help with the GuideML. It took me nearly all afternoon to catch my mistakes, but I think it's gone over pretty well. Hopefully, it won't get knocked off again. I'm going to work on another one this weekend and hope to have a new entry up on Monday.

Take care and have a glorious weekend.

Thanks Kandyman. No matter, it seems, how much you read or go over your own writing - you're bound to miss something. I'll go back and take care of that little error.

I really appreciate everyone's help and comments. It's a very friendly place here.
