Here is a little something I picked up after the article was finished.
~~~ All use of the personal pronoun in the following is by researcher U10713001-Meanwhile, on Oklahoma proper, a memory that's been with me(ITIWBS), a discovery of an ancient Comanche council ground in the Wichita Mountains. I made in the early 70s.
It was about 10 acres in area in a prairie short grass environment, surrounded by an elliptical ring of trees which apparently provided shade for people visiting the council grounds.
The tree used by young mothers tending infant children was easily identifiable. So was the one where the young men gathered to sharpen their knives. With the latter there were fragments of a distinctive sandstone used for the purpose not native to the area on the ground, the only artifacts I found.
I expect that core sections taken at the western focus of the ellipse, all overgrown with grass, would probably reveal ashes from the council fire.
I haven't been able yet to find the site on Google Earth, though its of a size one be able to see readily.
Perhaps something best left in the land that time forgot, though the site is still used by native Americans conducting an annual harvest of wild pecans in the area.
One of my favorite places in Oklahoma. smiley - winkeye
