With reference to the final paragraph in the Section about the War years.
Two R.A.F. men from 924 Balloon Squadron were killed on 8th February 1940 but another died of his wounds two days later on the 10th February.
They were Stanley Blaylock of Burnley, Garfield M. Pring and Frederick H. Greening of Islington.
‘several casualties’ is an understatement. 52 men were killed at Cunliffe-Owens Factory on the 11th September 1940.

E.; Hardman B.; Haydon R.; Heighton G.D.; Hendy L.; Hughes A.; Johnson A.; Keall E.W.; Lander G.; Landy B.; Lewis E.W.; Lynch C.E.; McCrae F. Thank you for the information, Local Historian. It's only when you see the list of names of those killed that you fully appreciate the cost of what happened at the airport on that day - something you don't think about when you pass the airport on the train each day.
