Hi-ho. I've been studying French for about 8 years now and I consider myself fluent. I found this site because I added French to my own and it is presently being refered to the community. I'd like to see that stopped; the point of the guide is for it to be available to all who wish to use it; of any culture, race or linguistc heritage. I'd also liek to know a bit more about what exactly I would do and how. Anyway, there you have it; My Life, Take it it's yours. Do what you will.

Hi Presently. You have my fullest sympathy. I thought that every English kid had to learn some French at school, just like every Norwegian kid have to learn English. Have I misunderstood? If I have, it's too bad. Everyone should have the opportunity to learn a second language.

Well, what are you supposed to do?
Nothing, unfortunately, at least most of the time. The Guide's lingua franca *IS AND WILL BE* English, and all other languages will only have marginal influence. If there are foreign-language parts (non-English, that is) in some conversations, the BBC has to insist on these parts to be "reasonably moderated", just like anything else that's published here.
So if the Italics have "hired" some trusted people around here who have proven that their judgement accords with the House Rules, they can say that the have taken organisational precautions to enforce the "reasonable moderating".
I'll add you to the French department, anyhow.
Jeremy

In Quebec (where I live), children in French Immersion or French must learn French. Children in the English stream do not. The Government is trying to change that. I won't get into it for I myself don't fully comprehend moslty because I don't want to; it's too silly. I agree with you, though, that all persons should have ample oppertunity to learn a second, third et cetera language.
