Hmm, I seem to have sat on this for a long time - it was part of the challenge h2g2 request for information on the counties and districts of the UK.
Please let me know what you think. I try to get online at least once every two days, but that can vary; so apologies if a few days go by without an answer!

Oops - can you guess I'm a newbie at this - I thought we had to type in the title and author bit ourselves!

Hey Perseus. Nice entry, my home county! I like it, it's really good. There are a couple of changes you could make, though.
The large volcanic plug is called Dumbarton Rock, not Clyde Rock. William Wallace was imprisoned there before being sent down south to get murrdurred. I think Mary Queen of Scots sailed from there to France as a wean.
You could mention that the Denny Tank Museum was the first water equivalent of a wind-tunnel in the world. The reason it was in Dumbarton was the water was too shallow for larger ships, so Denny's went for smaller craft.
Also, Renton were the unofficial world champions in 1888, when they beat West Bromwich Albion 4-1 at Hampden. It's maybe a bit harsh to say that they didn't adapt well to professionalism. They just didn't have the economic base to keep up with bigger clubs (ie from places with a bigger population).
again!

Hi pedro7,
Thanks very much for the info - I'll update that as soon as I get a minute!
I didn't know that about Renton, I'll definitely add it in! As for the Sons - I'm a bit worried to hear about this http://news.bbc.co.uk/sport1/hi/football/teams/d/dumbarton/4780586.stm today. Do you have any more information from a local point of view? I'm stuck in england, so the amount of news we get about SFL clubs is non-existant!
I take it from your PS that you are a 'tic fan? (100,000 apologies if not!) Seeing that QoS beat Clyde last weekend; I reckon the Doonhamers should be top of the league!

Hi Perseus
The local rag has pretty much the same quotes as the Beeb article, saying that the investors could buy the club but not control the assets. Apparently they contacted the club by email to let them know. I don't have any 'word from the street' though.
As for the 'tic, they are at their rightful place, if only because R****rs are so crap this year.

Right, those changes have been made; some of the websites I used to check the dates for Wallace suggested he may not have been kept there after all - hence the footnote. Can you believe there is no edited entry on him to link to?
This is a pretty unsubtle way of bumping this up the list isn't it?

Hurrah! Very glad to see this entry in PR. Hoping that it makes its way onto the Front Page in the not-too-distant future!

(Cough) Will anyone notice if I bump this up the list a bit?
Apologies if this is considered bad form.

Right, I've made a few minor changes to the layout and content, and have some others planned for when I get some time online not at work. (Is there a online during lunchbreak smiley?)
Do people think this is better/worse/about the same? I'd really appreciate some feedback, or suggestions as to how to make the entry less dry.
Cheers,
P

I think this is a fantastic Entry and reads very well with a great tone to it, lovely stuff. I wonder why its been languising because it really IS quality.
The only thing you will need to do is remove the first header 'Introduction'. This is for a couple of reasons. The first being, you don't really need it there, the second being that Edited Guide entries don't start with headers due to compatability issues with the pda/mobile skin Oh, and you could put the castle link in bold as you've done with the others, just looks nicer
Great read, will surely visit when I can.

Thanks guys, that's great!
I've made those changes MJ, I agree about the emboldening, can't think why I didn't notice it myself. I guess you do miss things when proofing stuff you've written yourself!
Cheers,

I know this sounds silly, but I noticed DuNbarton and DuMbarton. I'm a little unsure, which is right? Or are they both correct?

Not at all - crazy isn't it? It was pointing out this oddity which got me involved in writing the entry in the first place!

Your Guide Entry has just been picked from Peer Review by one of our Scouts, and is now heading off into the Editorial Process, which ends with publication in the Edited Guide. We've therefore moved this Review Conversation out of Peer Review and to the entry itself.
If you'd like to know what happens now, check out the page on 'What Happens after your Entry has been Recommended?' at EditedGuide-Process. We hope this explains everything.
Thanks for contributing to the Edited Guide!
