Oh - I didn't know that Uni Projects go to Peer Review after they've been subbed - it's an exciting process!

Absolutely fantastic smiley - biggrin. I had no idea ...

I'm not an expert so can't comment on accuracy or otherwise, but what an amazing labour of love. And v good subbing, didn't spot a single typo smiley - smiley

The only, weeny, tiny thing I'd say is, in the A-Z lists of songs - I assume the column on the left lists the American albums on which the the song has appeared? Have I understood that correctly? It might be worth a column header, or quick explanation at the top of the entry.

But apart from that, smiley - applausesmiley - applausesmiley - applause

>>>This was primarily in order for Capitol Records, true to their name, aiming to make more capitol,<<<

kwzg pointed this out in a comment on the first entry - A3418184

Capitol ( as in city)is a homophone (sounds like) capital but has a different meaning.

I don't think you could just change the spelling of the second capitol, maybe you could revise the sentence somehow?

In the two entries with the alphabetical lists of the songs, I wonder if it would be possible to reduce the space between the titles and the names of the albums - my eyes are going smiley - cdouble crossed trying to line them up.

But what a tremendous achievement to write all this up. I am sure there will be many people 'out there' who will be using this uni entry in the future for a reliable archive. smiley - oksmiley - smiley

Singles/songtracks are in single quotes, and albums are in italics.

Mol the column on the left is the track, or single. The column on the right is/are the album/s on which they appeared. I can put "Single or Track" above the first song and "Album" above the first album, if requiredsmiley - ok

I'll let BB answer the restsmiley - ok

Okay, with the A-M and N-Z, they are the tracks that the songs can now be found on, rather than the American albums they appeared on.

I liked the Capitol Records wanting more capital sentance, but if everyone else thinks it is a confusing read we can change it. In any case, the second capitol needs to be capital at the very least.

smiley - biroYou mention that two albums were named after songs the Beatles didn't write, once in the opening and once in the Twist and Shout section. It probably only needs one mention.
EDIT - I've found the third mention, which works quite well. Perhaps it's the first that can be taken out so we don't have to read it three times?

smiley - biro"The American branch... in July 1963".
I'm afraid this doesn't quite make sense to me - which one was Introducing the Beatles originally? Was it re-released?

smiley - biro"Long Tall Sally was without doubt the least value of the three Canadian Albums."
This doesn't quite work either, but I can't come up with anything better. "...without doubt of the least value..."? "...least value-for-money..."?

A stunning project, Bluebottle. smiley - wow I'll try to work my way through some more as I get the time. smiley - smiley

I think the two columns may be a bit closer together, but it still doesn't really help me - perhaps it's just be the way my eyes wobble, or that I have a wider screen. I tried looking at it in Alabaster and Goo btw.

Have a look at the A-M now, the first four albums have been centred. I need the OK from BB if I'm going to change all the Align=RIGHTs to Align=CENTER though, it'd be a big task and not one I'd like to undo if he disagrees.

Post 12

Lanzababy - Guide Editor

Maybe it's not the 'align centre' that needs to be changed, but the actual *width* of the table?

What I see now is the four items in the right hand side column are not 'right justified, but 'centre-justified' on my screen. I wish I could have a look over your shoulder and point out what I mean, it is hard in a conversation.

I had a look at the test analysis of the page and it says something like table width 100%. What happens if you reduce this percentage?

I have no ideasmiley - erm tables have been a big headache for me and I've barely mastered the code. I daren't tweak the table width in case I completely naff it up, and this is the only copy.

I'm with you there GB - I know nothing at all, except from what I have picked up,(mainly from you I might add)and I was just guessing.

Hmmmmm, wishing Bluebottle was around...

How about experimenting with the first two lines and aligning the titles (which appear on the LEFT of the screen) to RIGHT, and the albums ( which appear of the RIGHT hand edge of the screen to LEFT.

smiley - run

I still guess its the width of the table that needs to be reduced though. So, on second thoughts, smiley - zen wait for BB!

As I was puzzled about this I have had a little experiment. Take a look at this GB, it may be the easy answer

oh my, I'll let BB decide, before I tweak anything, but very well done!smiley - ok Remember when the entries here are edited, they will actually shrink due to the border at the side;

Ahah! The border will take up quite a bit of this white space, I never thought of that. That may be the solution.

smiley - biroThis was primarily in order for Capitol Records, true to their name, aiming to make more capital, began to store up songs edited from earlier albums to compile more albums composed of the left-overs."
-I think this would be better as two sentences. Or you could drop the 'true to their name' chunk.

smiley - biro"At their concerts in America it soon became common for the Beatles to introduce songs Which album's this song on? Er, I think the next number is on Something New."
-...introduce songs as...?

smiley - biro"The Beatles' creative output, the UK albums which contained the songs which they chose in the order they wished them to be, was completely and recklessly ignored in America, where Capitol Records, under David Dexter Junior and Bill Miller, were more interested in making money than preserving the Beatles' works of art."
-Again, I think it would be better as two sentences, or putting 'the UK albums...wished them to be' in brackets.

smiley - biro"The Beatles 1962-1966 (also known as 'The Red Album') and The Beatles 1967-1970 (aka 'The Blue Album')"
-I'd keep it consistent - 'also known as' or 'aka' for both albums

smiley - biro"Only five Beatles albums released while the Beatles were still together were the same both sides of the Atlantic..."
-You have already mentioned this, in lss detail, earlier in the article. Perhaps cut the earlier reference, as you explain it more thoroughly here?

smiley - ok

Re post 12: <>

The tag says that the table should occupy the full width (100%) of the displayed page. Changing 100% to 50% for example would make the table occupy only half the screen width. Where that 50% appears depends on the part of the tag ALIGN="CENTER". This puts the 50% in the centre of the screen, ie 25% empty at both left and right. Other options are ALIGN="LEFT" and ALIGN="RIGHT", placing the 50% either on the left or the right of the screen respectively.

Reducing the table width may mean that the data in the table header and rows gets shuffled around to fit whatever space remains, and may not appear the way you want it to.
