Time for more hints.
15 - This really only refers to one half of the second smiley.
21 - A short story. Involves a feature of one smiley, and a colour.
23 - The first smiley designates a person. The second and third together form an action.
26 - Short story. Mind the colour.
29 - Set in a warm climate.
30 - Really bad pun. One word.
Two of the remaining authors are female. Three are American, two are British. One work is a children's classic.
All but one of the remaining titles were first published in the 19th century.
