I anticipate withering scorn from those who know more than I about such things as this.

smiley - rofl Been there, done that, looked at the unappetising t-shirt.

I have two suggestions:

1. Talk to Malabarista - she's got a whole journal thread on her current computer woes.

2. Spell 'matt' as 'matte'. (I think that's right, and not just American.)

I like 'Apple Cathedral'. They do seem to be needlessly messianic about their products...smiley - whistle

My dad, a Southerner with good phone manners, gets quite annoyed by Bangalore call centres. Incompatible dialects, d'you see...

Thanks, both.

I may be a "genius" with regard to my particular problem but don't feel qualified to advise anyone else! I would have resorted to defenestration (computer-wise) had I had half of Malabarista's problems.

Matt. Not sure about that. Have been involved in Photos for many years. Always spelt it "Matt" Never seen "Matte" except on art paper.

Yes, I have sympathy, a small empathy and some other 'athy'. Enjoyable read, and showing exemplary patience. It reminds me of a month in my life when the non Apple PC would not connect to the internet because I had plugged the Ethernet connection into the wrong socket. Never had trouble with Wi Fi though. It removes the human hand of destruction...smiley - ok

Aha. It's a US/UK thing, apparently:

'matt or matte: In the UK, matt refers to a non-glossy surface, and matte to the motion-picture technique; in the US, matte covers both.'

Wikipedia.smiley - smiley (I just knew my photo paper was always labelled 'matte'.)
