I love your description of the winter trees, and your use of them as a symbol for human sorrow.
I wondered if the two lines beginning "He asks so little" go off on a bit of a tangent. But the dog is obviously important

I wanted the slight tangents with the dog - and to get in the idea of economics being part of the equation.
Sorry if I'm not cogent - the anaesthetic hasn't totally worn off yet from this morning's keyhole surgery...

As for the MVP haircut, I shudder to think what kind of haircut a Vogon might come up with .
