Very timely keledy. This afternoon (Monday NZ time) the band announced that they are breaking up for good.
To make your excellent yarn easier to read start your paragraphs with and end them with
To add blank lines use
Hope that helps

keledy!
I really enjoyed your article and believe it should be in the Guide.
A couple of points: you say you want to be able to put the nifty bits on a page - go to the GuideML Clinic, it seriously helped me and if I can pick it up, anybody can; trust me, I'm a technophobe!
I think a couple of main headings would break up the presentation, perhaps make it a little easier to read and maybe a run through some of the punctuation / grammar wouldn't go amiss.
The Powers at the Towers have said it needs 'tidying up' (?!?!) so this is my attempt try and aid (and abet? ) entry to the guide for what I think is a very worthwhile article.
Talk again soon!

Simulpost to the entry's conversation forum....
I've gotta say it; this is driving me up the wall..
For a definitive Pumpkins entry, this one certainly isn't all that great. What about Chards of Glass? Glass and the Machines of God? All the controversy around the Meaning of MACHINA? The conspiracies around Gish and Siamese Dream lyrics? What about them?
The author's missed out on a HUGE part of Pumpkins information - the fan lore. If a definitive Smashing Pumpkins entry needs to be written, I'll take care of it - I know three of the biggest fans on the face of earth, two of which I know personally and talk to just about every day.

Jargon.
I like the music and thought this was a fairly comprehensive run down...obviously not! SO...write your own entry, be informative, factual, interesting, daring...read the guidelines...maybe even collaborate with keledy, if s/he turns up in the near future.
If you don't want to collaborate, fine, get stuck in; do the deed; if you need advice, go to the writing workshop; or post to my page, if I can help I will!
If the article is brilliant/marvellous/superb/great etcetcetc...in it will go!
Have a bash!

would you be willing to help me on this article??? because it bothers me that sp doesn't even have a guide entry, after all they have done and how much they framed my youth....
yeah granted, i know this isn't the best article, but it is better than nothing... and just one day i decided to typed out everything i thought would sound interesting to even the non-fan....
yeah there are the contraversies over gish... the fan club that existed for siamese dream (i got sent the lyrics and several catalogues in the mail offering up sp merchandise- but that club died.) there is the whole existance of the web people that don't exist anymore... i wonder how many people were saddened the day Eric Agnew's website left the face of the planet (or Chris Carmen for the matter)
actually there deserves to be an entry just on the little fans of the pumpkins.... "what is the easiest way to get backstage to see the band....." or something like "what do you do when you find out the last concert you will ever see them at, you had front row" (as if that was the final reward for following the band for all of my teenage years..... there should be a laugh about taking a bite out of a twinkie (and dying at that moment) or going to the circus.
but how do you fit the ramblings billy posted online? how does one explain that i spent an entire weekend trying to write out the meaning of machina, only to relize too late that i hadn't even spent enough time on it....
how does one fit the Scratchie label into the scheme of things? or Starchildren? maybe the beginning with the metro and the ending of the metro.
there is the dropping fan numbers.. every one loved mcis. (i have a theory that everyone seems to own that album) but adore and machina are not user friendly to the boy-band music world. *sigh*
billy corgan, himself, could/should be a guide entry.. i still have to ask/wonder about his listening to the age of 33 being one of change... or why the friendship with the Frogs....
i guess the problem is: how can one write about this band unless it is a novel? i'm sorry my entry attempt dissapointed you.. but.. this isn't set in stone, i've been meaning to look at what i wrote and change it a bit (but then there is that every increasing problem of *Too* much information... then it is a game of including all the drama and side-tangents or what?)
anyways, i blathered on for too long.
and also, who are the 3 biggest fans of sp? (i'm just curious..)

thanks okapi,
but i have a rather dumb/silly question: where is/what is the guideml clinic? hmmmm.. the word clinic scares me, because my last experience with a british clinic was enough to make me want to leave the country.. ummmm....

Well, my brother - owns pretty much every release on either CD or vinyl.. the Lull EP.. about 4 copies of 1979 in CD and vinyl.. the rare The End Is The Beginning Is The End Remixes vinyl (bought it for $15!!).. damn near everything. He was in a Pumpkins cover band. Met Billy twice; gave him a videotape of one of his band's performances when he met Billy in Ann Arbor.. was at St. Andrew's for Jimmy's triumphant return..
Then there's my friend Anna at school.. about the same as far as I know.
There's also a mentor at this music camp I go to, Kelly.. she has about 39 tour T-shirts.. or maybe it was 39 posters.. something like that.. Either way, I know 3 of the biggest SP fans on probably the face of the earth.. It's incredible.
What I'll do (as soon as exams are over, about two weeks from now) is I'll make a secondary Pumpkins Entry, basically what was missed in yours.. I'll submit it for Peer Review and say it's the crucial extension to yours :-,
Cool?

Jargon/keledy, Hi!
This is excellent that you two are talking about collaboration!
I've a couple of suggestions to make.
http://www.h2g2.com/GUIDEML-CLINIC will take you the page, and don't be nervous!! If a technophobe like me can get the hang of GuideML, anybody can! Bruce and all the contributors make it pretty easy to understand.
http://www.h2g2.com/A264520 will take you to the Sub-Editors Guide to GuideML. It points out all the dooberies that you need to get your article up and running in the format.
Also, with your permission keledy, if you guys want work on the piece ( and I reckon it will be well worth it!), I can get the thread and piece moved across to the Writing Workshop, where you can work on it in peace AND have the benefit of advice from loadsa people who are interested in this sort of thing! Let me know, and I'll set the wheels in motion!
Jargon - if you're going to start work on another piece to add to the jigsaw that is the SP's, I'd suggest that you don't post it to the PR, but work with keledy in the Writing Workshop, amalgamate your efforts THEN post the results to the PR when it's well and truly ready!
Hope this is of some help...let me know if you want to go ahead!

I agree with Okapi - if this thread gets moved to the workshop, you can try and combine your efforts to create THE definitive entry on the SP's, and all will be happy...
Let's do it, Let's write it (dot com)

Editorial Note: This Conversation has been moved to the new 'Flea Market' Forum.
This is where we move any Peer Review, Writing Workshop or Alternative Writing Workshop Conversations where the original author has *not* posted to h2g2 for three months. This prevents the active Review Forums from clogging up with dormant entries, but in the Flea Market they can be picked up by others and polished off.
