Hi again Sea Change
OK, corrections and additions made.
The 'list of places' was going to get a write up on each one, but in the end the whole thing was getting a bit too long and I have had to edit it severely, which is why it may seem a bit ‘clipped’ in places. I omitted to delete the list but now I’ve added some notes to a couple of the villages as examples.
Hog’s Back is correct, at least according to Ordnance Survey.
Sentences starting:
At the high point… The grounds of the house…
Re-written, hopefully to clarify.
D’Abernon. / d’Abernon.
D’Abernon as in Stoke D’Abernon is a place name and appears to be derived from the family name of Sir John d’Abernon.
D’Abernon appears on the OS maps and in text relating to the place, while d‘Abernon appears in text relating to the family. It seems that either may be correct depending on the context. I’ve changed both at present to the same while I take further advice.
Being a poor workman I’m going to blame my tools for any odd looking apostrophe that has crept in. Right at the moment my latest version of Word sees fit to correct me at every step, including chucking capital letters where I don’t want them. Neither does GuideML recognise “..” speech marks in the LINKS. I’ll make a final correction on that later.
I’m also convinced that it altered my ‘Hi’ to ‘High’ in my last post. At least, that’s my excuse. Please accept my apologies for that, it wasn’t intended.
Thanks for your help
DK

'In 1940, the first great air battle of WW2 took place in the skies above the home counties of Surrey, Kent and London when the Battle of Britain was fought between Britain’s Royal Air Force and Germany‘s Luftwaffe for air supremacy prior to invasion'.
I used to ive in Walton-on-the Hill (Nr Tadworth, as a youth. Just there, there was an area of common land which was deeply cratered; absolutely superb for riding around on bicycles. Story was that this is where a Junkers 88 had off-loaded its cargo of bombs before returning to Germany. There were also adders there
Walton-on-the-Hill also has a golf course where a famous folf tournament is held every year. Can't recall the name of the tournament, but my elder brother used to caddy there.
Myself and my younger brother used to collect 'I-Spy' books and the car park of the golf club was a fruitful place to spot expensive/rare cvars and automobile/motoring organisation badges etc etc .
(Walton-on-the Hill also has a pub which was in tyhe newas relatively recently as being a favourite watering hole of George Best.
ng You have 'magnesium sulphate' spelled with initial capital letters - unnecessarily.

Hi BigAl, Thanks for your comments.
As a kid we used to have a couple of bomb craters to play around in near where I lived. They were in Richmond Park and during the war the park was closed and used for army billeting. The craters were reputed to have been used by them as grenade practice pits.
At the moment I work in Epsom and I’ve been asking around about the golf course and tournament. Drawn a blank so far, but if I can find anything I’ll add it in.
Magnesium sulphate amended.
Thanks

BigAl
Would the golf course be Walton Heath Golf Club? They hold various international events through the year.

Yes, that's the one. There's a VERY major tournament held there every year which I can't remember the name of. S'thing like Benson & Hedges, but I think that's s'thing else. (You can tell I'm not very sporty )

Your Guide Entry has just been picked from Peer Review by one of our Scouts, and is now heading off into the Editorial Process, which ends with publication in the Edited Guide. We've therefore moved this Review Conversation out of Peer Review and to the entry itself.
If you'd like to know what happens now, check out the page on 'What Happens after your Entry has been Recommended?' at EditedGuide-Process. We hope this explains everything.
Thanks for contributing to the Edited Guide!
