A Conversation for Tom Lehrer (in progress)

The Army and Dudley Moore

He was in the army for a bit, wasn't he? He did the grad bit, then was drafted, and afterwards recorded his songs, while trying to find something better to do.
Also, "That was the Week that Was" in the UK had Dudley Moore doing the comedy song bit. I distinctly remember Dud being described as "Britain's Tom Lehrer", although presumably not when it came to long lived, catchy tunes.

You're dead right Doc.

I had forgotten about the army stint. He wrote "it makes a fella proud to be a soldier" while he was there.

Cool.

I'll add you in to the list of researchers if you fancy it. Hopefully then you can put points in directly

Sadly it don't work like that. Only the editor can ... well edit, but it will show up on the bottom of anyone's page whose name you have added. I suppose it stops people from editing each others stuff and having raging cat fights about it all. smiley - smiley

Oh, I did a quick Google search and got;
Addendum: recently, many people have been asking whether Tom Lehrer is still alive. Fortunately for us, he is alive and well, and teaching History of Music at the University of California in Santa Cruz. For the inquisitive, his birthday is April 9th, and this year (1997) he is 69.
I don't have much time, but might be worth your while following up a few more of the links thrown up by Google. You at least get to laugh at some of his quotes. smiley - smiley
