Gaaah!! Polo shirts?? I thought we'd already decided on T-Shirts?
Oh, okay, then. I guess I'll have to accept polo shirts...

A thought just occurred to me...
The "minimum quantity" is so that it's worth setting up the pattern in the embroidery machine, isn't it? Once that's done there should be no difference to them whether they're doing it on a Tee shirt or a Polo shirt. It's the same as doing it on different sizes of Tee shirt/Polo shirt, which they're going to have to do anyway.
FC, could you discreetly enquire as to whether a "mixed batch" is acceptable? If my theory's right it's no extra work for them.

Can I put my name down for one? I prefer T-shirts, but will happily go along with buying polo shirts if that's what people decide on.

Only just found this because I'd somehow managed to unsub myself from the page...
