I think that you have covered the first part of this fairly well already, but are you still wanting a general entry on playing cards themselves?
I think I would quite like to tackle that if no-one else volunteers!

Hello
Yes I am still looking for a general entry on playing cards themselves and if you want to tackle it I would be very grateful.

I found a fair bit of info when searching for info on Piquet decks for the Bezique entry... it kept me reading for hours!
Luckily I saved all the links, so I will trawl back through them and start work asap.
I will also see if I can persuade TPTB to include one or two examples... no harm in asking eh?

That's a great idea. As I understand it, the standard deck of cards used to have more cards in it, sort of like the tarot deck.
I think a good headline quote for the articel would be the Steven Wright joke: "Last night, I played solitaire witha deck of tarot cards, and four people in my apartment building died." I suspect I mangled it a bit.

Hehehehe!
Yes... and the styles suffered a lot during the French revolution and the English civil war... court cards were frowned on or even banned!
I'll make a start on it this weekend and let you know when I have something of interest then
