Idaho also has some good skiing.
And one of the US's biggest ongoing toxic waste cleanups in history.
While Idaho does attract and breed some bizarre folk, they tend to be more of the militant Libertarian variety than of the KKK type. However, I have heard of large KKK gatherings there. Of course, I've also heard of large neo-hippie gatherings there -- it's a state with lots of pretty open space, so it's ideal for gatherings of outdoor types in the summer.

I would be wary of any scout picking this entry as it is. It is very common for newbies to write an entry trashing the place they come from. This one is exceptional because it actually has a lot of information about Idaho as well. But it is very much one person's opinion. Has anybody else ever been to Idaho? Can they confirm that it is as boring as it is made out to be?

My initial response was to pronouce it Frenchified: bwaahz. French trappers explored much of NW US of A, so it was perhaps an overly erudite, but reasonable assumption. After learning that Pierre was pronounced 'peer'(as in look deeply into as opposed to a jury-member, which are pronounced differently in a California-English accent) by a Dakotan, I then surmised Boise would also be anglicised, to boi-zee, with no syllable accent, no wrap-around y sound as in boy which is the correct, and with none of the pronounced s sibilance it is properly pronounced with.

*warning: this is a tangential comment.
Wha? "'peer'(as in look deeply into as opposed to a jury-member, which are pronounced differently in a California-English accent)"
I beg to differ. Born and raised here in L.A. and never heard anybody ever pronounce those two different from each other.

This entry has really improved since it was first submitted, however it still has a rather 'sour' feel about it.
I'm not sure what you mean by the first sentence, Tom. I would advise that you take out the last paragraph as well. This could easily make it if you make it a bit more neutral.

Native LAers first called the city Lass Anggle eeze, (with lots of hard G sound) so I hardly consider your pronunciation failures between pee eer and piee er surprising.
My native city, the third largest in California, BTW, is pronounced by the natives as: sannaZAY.

AWOL = Absent WithOut Leave (a military term). That's the only definition I've ever heard.

Well if I'm not wrong there are lots of nice new divider thingies. They are lovely. However, maybe, just maybe, they could benifit from some space before and after them. Whattdaya think? Right now they areveryclosetothesubject. Also, the "Craters of the Moon" divider has some funky overlap thingie going on. Or is it just my PC?

Oh and I very much like the non-H2G2 links. Having everything point to internal stuff is kinda insestuous if you ask me.

I've checked the Craters of the Moon link, and I tell you now: my computer shows no overlap. Also, I'm glad you like the fact that there are non-H2G2 links in my entry. There simply aren't enough other Idaho articles in the Guide to refer to.

Well of course there aren't enough Idaho entries! Could there EVER be too many?

Oh, and my PC at home doesn't have the overlap thing going on, so I don't know what that was about but it seems not to be at that end.
