Hi, Tilly!
Your entry is very nicely laid out but I think it needs a basic introduction at the beginning, where you explain what calligraphy is. If you don't want to go into any kind of history of calligraphy, then I think you might be better off using 'Beginning Calligraphy' as the title of the whole article, not just a section.

A couple of other points that could be explained - is a calligarphy pen a dip pen or a fountain pen? and exactly what are majuscules?

Good luck!

Well, I've added a bit on it. Please tell me if you think something is missing or not clear enough.

But when it comes to wether it is a dip- or fountain pen, I have to say that it doesn't matter. The whole idea of a Calligraphy pen is that it has a split nib. The earliest probably was dip pens, yes, but it really doesn't matter if just the ink is there. smiley - smiley

Took the time to explain what majuscules are, too.

Nice entry! However - what about calligraphy in other languages? Chinese calligraphy is an ancient tradition, as is Arabic calligraphy - in fact, some Muslims say that the Qu'ran is shown to be the word of God as their language is so beautiful.

too bad my sister is some 6000km away... she does calligraphy as well. Well, a bit of intro should be in order: something along the lines of 'Calligraphy is an art. The art of writing text in aesthetically perfectioned (sp?) letters, sometimes going to great lenghts with curlicues which are very pleasing to the readers' eyes' -- or some such smiley - smiley

Otherwise, well done smiley - ok

Well, I've written a short intro, - tell me if I should add on that one.

But when it comes to the foreign stuff, I've never learned about it. And so I don't know how to write about areas I'm not educated in. So therefore I call my entry "Using Calligraphy" since I can't do the whole subject. smiley - blue

Anything else, just tell me! smiley - cheerup

The -graphy part in the name comes from the greek 'grafein' = to write

I'm not sure about the vocabulary here, does one 'use Calligraphy' in English, or does one 'do' it?

Anyway, this entry is looking good! smiley - ok

I think one could use a calligraphy pen to "do calligraphy", or "use calligraphy" as a decorative tool - so either works.

To complete the Greek derivation:
Kalos - good, beautiful or elegant
Graphe - writing

BTW The opposite of Kalos is Kackos - bad, ugly or clumsy - from which we get the phrase "Cack-handed" [which then acquired the meaning of left-handed], or just the slang word "Cack" for something of poor quality.

Nice article!

Great! smiley - smiley

How about adding a section about choosing your tools telling people where they can buy them, the choices they can make and the advantages and disadvantages of different choices. (I'm no expert but for example I know that you can get dipper pens and felt-tip type pens.)
