Local places?

As the original idea was that no matter where you go you can look up the local area and find your nearest pubsmiley - ale, restaurantsmiley - cake, shopsmiley - cheerup etc I'd like to suggest a review of at least one of each in your immediate surroundings.

I agree! And any H2G2 regulars ought to keep an eye open at any such establishment they visit which isn't part of a national/global chain, and write us some entries.

Heck, why not have a section of H2G2 categorized heirarchically, geographically, in order to make locating these things easier for users of the guide?

Local happens to be a passion of mine. Good idea! I live in Columbia, MO, USA and one place in particular pops into my head when I hear the word local: The Root Cellar.

The Root Cellar is a unique grocery store/eatery that provides vegetables, dariy, meats, beer and a variety of value added products. What makes this place unique is that virtually all of their products come from Missouri and there is an emphasis on ALL NATURAL! Not organic necessarily; but all of the meat and dairy you can buy there comes from animals that are pasture-raised and free of hormones and anitbiotics. Some prices may be a little higher than the chain stores, but you're paying for quality, not quantity. If you're in the neighborhood, give it a try.

The Root Cellar: A Missouri Grocery Store
21 N. Providence
Columbia, MO 65203

I'll write more with a local bar and restaurant at a later time.

I love my locality, I'm in a seaside town in one of the most beautiful places on Earth. The soil is red and so is the sand. My town has about 30 pubs and 1 nightclub. The downside is that pursuing a career that does not involve tourism is difficult.
Having said that, I believe that one of the best pubs in the world is on my doorstep. It is called the New Quay in Teignmouth. It backs on to a beach in the estuary and has the best view of Dartmoor without actually being there. They also serve food and let children in!
Don't let the appearance put you off, and if you go in for a drink and I'm there, mine's a pint of Hobgoblin!smiley - cheers

Hah! I am replying to one of my postings. Oops. I have to correct it because I am wrong.
The New Quay in Teignmouth may be excellant but I no longer drink there. The better option is the Jolly Sailor,(which is close by, but they sell Doom Bar!)smiley - biggrin
What can I say, except the staff are nicer and more efficient.
Two visits to the Jolly and you're home. They know what you drink and they don't judge.
