What he came up with was a test that delivered a number that could be used to rank individuals according to their intelligence.
Make that 'presumed intelligence' amd I'll be happier
Benet was trying to rank students for their ability to be taught and to use what they have been taught. So, in this ssense, when we call these intelligence tests, we are using a functional definition of intelligence that might be stated as, "Intelligence is the degree to which a person is able to use what s/he has been taught."
Obviously, this involves us in the whole question of what teaching and learning are and makes the article on Piaget even more important.
