The Wimbledon Fever
Frankie Roberto Started conversation Jun 26, 2001
Someone writing about Wimbledon would do well to mention the whole tennis fever that exists around Wimbledon fortnight.
It is a strange phenomonen in Britain that when Wimbledon comes around the parks are suddenly full of people picking up a racket and taking to the courts. These people never play during the rest of the year, but come Wimbledon become hardcore tennis players, it rarely lasts more than a few weeks after Wimbledon has finished however. This peculiar month-long tennis season in Britain has often been used to explained why there are so few British tennis stars, unlike the rest of the world where tennis is a year round hobby, here it is a yearly passing fad.
The moral of the story? Don't expect to be able to find tennis courts free during Wimbledon.
