A Conversation for Filing for a Patent

I have an idea for an invention

Post 1

This guide entry has given me a good insight into what a patent is, and has given me reassurance as I do not have the means to manufacture my invention. Next step...discover how to register my patent... Any tips would be very welcome. smiley - ok

Hi Lotti - Sorry I didn't reply sooner, I was not expecting anyone to find that ebtry of use yet!!!

I can't give you propper legal advice because I'm not qualified (yet - nor for several years from now) but if you give me an idea of where (ie in which country) you live and how widely you think your invention might be useful I'll try & give you some tips.

Oh by the way - please don't say what it is you have invented, 'cos anyone can read this discussion and it might (and probably would) count as a public disclosure. smiley - cool

I have added a little more to the patents entry and included some links that might help you. We are not supposed to put links in conversations, so I'll have to let you take them from the guide entry

Thanks for your replies, I have been on holiday so haven't had chance to read your links yet but I shall be doing so after I have typed this. I live in the UK, and my idea would have appeal to various types of individuals (ie the end product wouldn't be marketed to companies, or to a specific type of individual) (that is as much as i can say without giving it away!)

Cheers for your help, I shall read your updated entry now!

Hi Lotti,

Welcome back. Hope your holiday was fun.

I've had a bit of a nightmare day today, but I'll send you some ideas of how you might best get a patent for your invention tomorrow if I have time.

Ugi

PS - UK is good, 'cos that's where I work & so know most (not that I know all that much) about. smiley - cool

PPS have a smiley - strawberries
