Aside from the limited reading of "Song of Myself," in which you look only at surface and political situations (something Whitman would have detested), your premise implodes on one major point:
"Song of Myself" was the feature poem in Leaves of Grass's first publication date ... of 1855. The poem has very little to do with the Civil War, as the war did not start for another five years (not to mention the poem was first written a full decade beforehand).
What you've basically said is the equivalent of saying "Lord of the rings" is about Vietnam. It's a stretch, to put it mildly.
