Hi!
*Sneaks in with large hamper of donuts, sticky cakes, etc*
FC is currently subbing the rest of the project entries. Looks like you're v.v.v. busy IRW. How's the research going, and can I help you in any way?
Keep well!

Don't worry, I've not forgotten! I've just made it back home, and plan to have a go tonight... watch this space

something changed! I've added some brief biographical notes... musical ones to follow...

OK - it's under way. Just keep me posted. I'll go & stock up on refreshments.

*Returns with lemon-iced carrot & walnut cake, and a snippet of Debussy trivia ...*
In 1916, "L'isle joyeuse" sold 17,000 copies of sheet music in 2 months (Real Top of the Pops stuff!). Debussy said:
"This is the century of the aeroplane, and there is no music for it, so I have to create it".
(Rather suggests that this piece might include an impression of a flight over the island ....)

It's coming along .... a couple of items that might be useful ...
While at the Con, he won the Prix de Rome, and went there 1885 - 7
Music seems to have been more influenced by visits to Bayreuth (met Wagner) 1888, 1889 , and listening to Javanese Gamelan music (Paris World Fair 1899).
Wrote first sonata (for flute violin & harp) of a planned set of 6 (cut chort by his death). Cause of death: rectal cancer.
(Cheerful note to end on! Sorry!)
Keep well!

Cheers for that, Kes
& don't worry, I've not forgotten him...
I'm just amazed by the fact that more than one girl shot herself on being left by him! (and survived)

Yes, what you'd call a colourful character! I read somewhere that someone wrote a short play which was closely based on Debussy's scandalous private life. It was performed, but D daren't sue because it was so close to the truth! ...Unfortunately, I can't find a reference to it ...
OK - keep up the good work!

Hi! How's it going? (hint, hint)

Yes, this RL stuff can be a nuisance .... Hey! I hope you had a good RW summer, btw . OK - keep plugging away at the text - and thanks. If I don't hear from you, I'll touch base here before I depart for the RW. Keep well!

My provisional personal deadline is sometime on Monday.
Then after I've done that I only have about 12 things waiting to edit...

Wow! I await your next update keenly! (and thanks!) ...Only 12 to go eh? ... I know the feeling. I'll put FC the "sub" on stand-by. Take care!

Je n'aime pas this entry. I'm going to have to put back my provisional deadline, I keep getting confused by things I've read. But I've got it sussed now.

Sorry to hear it's giving you problems ... Well, he was a complex guy, I suppose ... Don't get stressed about the deadline ... just keep plugging away, and give me a yell when\if you'd like me to cast my eyes over it. Here's hoping it's on the home straight ...
