h2g2 The Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy: Earth Edition

A couple of months ago one of my mates had an 18th. Pretty standard affair. Anyway, I was working the bar, mostly because I was poor and was getting some 80% of the profits.

After everyone had cleared out (the cops showed up, apparantly old woman don't like loud music at 2 in the morning), we set up a poker game. Everyone was pretty trashed (by everyone I mean about 10 guys, and a chick or two), and someone was foolishly passing a bong around.

Now, back to the game. We were playing straight poker, just 5 cards, ditch want you don't want, get some more. To cut a really long story short, we played for roughly 7 hours (till 9 in the morning). I was playing with the cash I'd made woking the bar, and I wasn't going too badly either. I'd picked up 4 queens at one point and towards the end of the night I had roughly doubled my money ($300 to $600). Myself, the party boy, and this other bloke James were all that remained come the end. We had cleared everyone else out.

The last hand was dealt. We expected it to be huge. Actually, I was gonna bail if I didnt get half decent cards. I ended up with a 2 of hearts and a 4 of hearts. I don't remember the other 3 cards, but they were crap so I ditched them. After all, it was the last hand, may a well go for gold, a straight flush is what I wanted to finish it off with.

I bet your all thinking that I'll say "and I got the straight flush". Well no, I didn't. I picked up 2 more 2s and a 4. A full house, 2,2,2,4,4. Pretty nice I'm thinking.

The betting gets underway and the bday boy soon drops out. It just me and this guy James. I can't quite remember what the pot got too, but it was decent, i had about $400 in it. Say $850ish when its all said and done.

Anyway, James calls, and lays done a full house. 3,3,3,5,5. Naturally I can't f*****g believe it.

Still, it was a good end to a great game. One bloody card higher. Ah well, I took him for everything he had about 3 weeks later, but it wasn't interesting then, just grinding it out, bit by bit.
