tribute to douglas

When I saw on B.B.C. teletext service last Saturday that Douglas had died,my heart sank like a stone.Whilst I'm not the most avid of readers, the Hitch-Hikers trilogy(in five parts)is the only set of books I've ever read more than twice.
My personal favourite characters were Arthur, like me,the eternal pessimist and Marvin whose one liners I could readily readily relate to.
To know that Douglas also had a love of wildlife and conservation only made my liking for the man grow.I just wwish I could have met him to thank him personally for all the joy and no doubt tears of laughter he bought to so many people.
God bless you,Douglas.

"The Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy is a wholly remarkable book. It has been compiled and recompiled many times and under many different editorships. It contains contributions from countless numbers of travellers and researchers."
