I note in the introductory page to the Ridgway albatross voyage that albatrosses can travel up to 2600 kilometres in a day. I would be interested to know how this information was obtained and for what species. I know of no documented record for more than 1800k in a day so would appreciate the reference used.

John Ridgway compiled this and he's currently in the middle of the Atlantic ocean, headed for Cape Town! When he docks maybe he, or his Communications man, Nick Grainger, will be able to help.

"Brave birds Flying for 22 hours and 36 minutes a day at maximum speed. Perhaps they can learn me how to add another 18 hour to each day.
Even at the maximum speed other resources give of 135Km per hour it would take 19hours full speed flight each day."
