A Conversation for Wiping Out (While Surfing)

Excellent points well made. I think an important ommision however is the consideration of style when wiping out. A brief point about not flailing does not cover the issue adaquately.
Style is the single most important factor when a wipeout is innevatable - because (as pointed out in the authors list) everyone is watching you - so you need to go down gloriously!
And remember when you surface the number of people staring at you is proportional to the size of the wipeout and the time you spent underwater.
A spectacular wipeout followed by a hold down complete with tombstoning board will mean concerned surfers keeping a look out for you. Under these circumstances it is important NOT to surface looking like a surprised Guppy (small bug eyed fish) - you may want to gasp for breath - but release and inhale slowly to maintain your cool
If you cant get a good wave - a good wipe out will get you just as much prestige.

Ah Rattus Rattus!
otherwise known as Rattz?
I agree absolutely. There is a definite finesse a faire de complit when wiping out successfully. The lobster dive is an obvious favourite, not going to make it? dive off over the falls with style and amaze friends by surfacing with a fresh lobster in tow!
Tip: go deep for the juicy ones + assume a good old fashioned dive position.
