....but they are gentle creatures, the domestic rat, I had a white one, with pink eyes.
They need to be handled often to stop them nipping you, they will sit on your lap or shoulder and let you stroke them.

....do buy a proper large rat cage though, and give them lots of toys, mine had a wooden dogs toy which it sat on or chewed, very good for it's teeth! You can put climbing things in cage, I gave mine a branch which it happily swung on.

.....it will love running around you living room, but keep it away from electic cables though, those sharp teeth and electricity don't mix.

.....feeding wise, go for a proper rat mix available from pet shops, not expensive, also gave mine some fruit, a bit of chicken, carrots, etc now and then......my rat called ''Pretty'', silly name for a male rat, but a friend said he was pretty, and she was right, so Pretty he was called, lol, loved those nut types things you can buy for rodents which hang up in cage, but they have honey on so don't over do them, or you will have a fatty ratty!

....they only live around 2 to 3 years so enjoy them while they are around!

Well I like rats they have go bed press fancy rats are lovely animals

Pet rats are said to be intelligent too, my brother had a white one, he kept it in a large tank, can't remember what he called it. A572375 an entry on pet rats you may like to read.

A friend of mine had a white, brown and black fancy rat called Rofus HE the rat was sweet and gentle and very effctionate

Might get another white rat if my cat dies, still miss my rat, used to hear him running around in his cage at night, he used to come out of box in his cage and say hello when I got back from work!
