This is Week Fifteen of Giford's Bible Study Programme.

There were giants in the earth in those days; and also after that, when the sons of God came in unto the daughters of men.

- Gen 6:4
For only Og king of Bashan remained of the remnant of giants; behold his bedstead was a bedstead of iron; is it not in Rabbath of the children of Ammon? Nine cubits was the length thereof, and four cubits the breadth of it1, after the cubit of a man.

- Deut 3:11
And there went out a champion out of the camp of the Philistines, named Goliath, of Gath, whose height was six cubits2 and a span.

- 1 Samuel 17:4

Length: 3/5

Nor were giants the rare exceptions to the rule. Numbers 13:32 says that all the Canaanites were giants.

God's inerrant word also talks about dragons and unicorns.

Biblical references to unicorns (re'em in Hebrew) can be explained away as the product of over-imaginative translators. They were probably oryxs (rimu in Assyrian, where they were traditionally displayed in profile, i.e. with a single visible horn), although rhinos have also been suggested. Biblical literalist uber-site Answers in Genesis, always good for a laugh, suggest that unicorns were real but extinct creatures.

Dragons are mentioned lots of times and cannot be explained as any real creature, since they breathe fire (Job 41:19, speaking of Leviathan: 'Out of his mouth go burning lamps, and sparks of fire leap out.')
