A Conversation for Sex Pistols(Incomplete)

Whilst I would never take anything away from the impact of the Pistols and the about-face they caused in the music industry & society in general, is it really true to say that their upbringing in poverty caused them to hate society?
I have the distinct impression that the Pistols were only anti-establishment for the press; that it was more a case of apathy than anti most likely fueled the McClaren.
Any thoughts on this?

I heard a story about how a journo rang up John Lydon at his parents house and he answered the phone in a terribly plummy voice until he realised it was the press and then went into his "punk" persona.
