I am a third-generation Aggie and Class of '01. Just wanted to say that the article was really interesting and researched fairly well. However, A&M no longer stands for 'agricultural and mechanical' or anything at all since we now offer such an array of degree programs. Also, in regards to the A&M-UT rivalry, they do not just shake their heads and laugh at us or our bonfire. They have a hex rally, where they attempt to put a curse on us! I am an Aggie, class of '99. The article did a decent job of explaining Texas A&M to non-Aggies, but it was clearly written from an (somewhat disapproving?) outsider's point of view.
I wanted to add that after the not-quite-completely-built Bonfire fell over in the fall of 1999, killing twelve students, the university big-wigs have decreed that that tradition be abandoned.

"The Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy is a wholly remarkable book. It has been compiled and recompiled many times and under many different editorships. It contains contributions from countless numbers of travellers and researchers."
