Still looking for info on counting systems based on five...maybe because of one hand?
I remember reading that counting was believed to have come from shepherds. That before they could count, they'd simply take a stone out of a bag for each sheep that left the fold, and then put them in again at night, or the other way around.
Amazing the perdurance of a system like that.
