A Conversation for Moderation - The New Evil Empire?

Minor rules?

Post 1

Titania (gone for lunch)

Uncle Heavy, maybe you've never posted, or felt the need to post at the Polyglot Plaza?

It USED to be a place for all of the researchers (and believe me, there are plenty!) whose mother tongue isn't English!

Recently, one of my Scandinavian h2g2 friends lost someone closely related, and tried telling me about it, in 'Scandinavian' (that is either Swedish, Norwegian or Danish - since we do manage to understand each other rather well) obviously feeling more comfortable using 'Scandinavian' than English, maybe not wanting to share it with EVERYONE at h2g2...

...I WANT TO BE ABLE TO POST IN MY OWN LANGUAGE AT H2G2!!! And what is the answer? They haven't got moderators that know these languages! So try asking some of the researchers for help! To my knowledge (I might be wrong, but not as far as I know) not one of the non-English researchers have been approached by anyone at h2g2/BBC asking to help translating!!! WHAT A WASTE OF KNOWLEDGE!!! WHAT A LACK OF TRUST!!!

Uncle Heavy [sic]

i concede that things aren't perfect, and that other languages are a sticking point, but you have to make the best of it. im sorry about it, i really am, but i think we have something important here, too good to lose. and i dont want my friens to leave over largely peetty problems
