I'm going to have to post Jimmy Greaves with AC Milan, even though I know thats completely wrong. Its just that if I don't post it I'll never be able to carry on through and work out the correct answer.

How about the West Auckland football team who won that European competition back around 1905. They beat Turin I believe.

No doubt you're refering to just the UEFA Competitionsmiley - winkeye

Did some sneaky Englishman slip into the Celtic team in 67 (or 8)? I thought the whole team was born within 30 miles of Glasgow or something, but...

GreyDesk

Yeah, thats the line I was working along, but I've not found anything yet....

Celtic winning the European Cup is one of the forgotten/black hole facts in football history. Everyone in England thinks that ManU were the first "British/English speaking" team to win it.

BTW thanks for the hint on Q52. Hope the half point and smiley - stout suits you OK.

I think that the first Englishman to appear in a European Cup final was as a referee. It was probably that Mr Reader or Jack Thingy (Taylor?) from Wolverhampton. I have decided that I won't be getting any help from my friend Mr Google anymore - if I don't know then I'll just guess. Hope this points someone else in the right direction to a point and a smiley - stout

Cheers, Greydesk! It suits me fine (especially as I've never even heard of our friend Joengblod (which I've now forgotten how to spell), much less have a detailed knowledge of his optical assistance practices).

I've got to grips with the table command and will work on that in the next few days!

I haven't had a chance to read the Cruyff article yet, but will do so before the night is out!
