Clues or no clues ...?

Bright Blue Shorts has raised a fair point (see thread for Q038), and from now on clues will not be given - just clarification of certain points.

IMHO there should be a ban on looking up answers from the Internet for 12 hours (although this would have to be down to the trust of players). As I demonstrated in Q39, it's all too easy to find the answers out from the internet. There's only been 2 or 3 questions that have lasted e.g. Q21 & Q38. I don't know it's all a bit difficult.
As for clues, I reckon 2-3 days. Q39 was posted for 3 hours before I saw it and it already had 20 postings (so I don't think that idea would be fair). It's just that some of us don't stayed logged on continuously and only access once a day ...

Maybe we could have an agreed time when the questions are posted or are some people taking this all far too seriously?
I missed 2, or was it 3, questions last night because I committed the cardinal sin of going to do the shopping but so what - it is just a bit of fun isn't it?

Oh I don't mind missing questions, just that they almost always seem to have been answered (except 2 or 3 out of 39) in the first ten minutes. My suspicion and it is something that I do (as well) is that people look them straight up on the Internet, which then becomes a bit of a fiasco. I actually enjoy the lets try and guess our way through all the names of the 1986 Manchester United team, or list of England goalkeepers, or whatever. The questions that last beyond a day can become quite exciting.
You're probably right, I probably am taking it too seriously, trying to instigate rules to equalise the competition and all that. I would however not like clues.

I do use the internet to search for some of the answers - not always with much success. But I do try using my brain first.
I would prefer there not to be clues, unless we really are all stumped ie after 3 days of wild guessing.

Re looking up answers on the internet - I like to have a wild guess but I must admit to checking my guesses after I've posted them - hence my point about the Carlisle/Norwich answer yesterday

I used a much lower tech system to come up with my answers about the distance between grounds... 1974 AA Members Handbook

Well I don't suppose the distances have changed in the interim
Excellent answer by the way - much more comprehensive than mine but I would be interested in the distances ... RAC here I come

No clues, at least for a couple of days.....
not that I've ever been here early enough to get a whole point!

I know how far it is from Ipswich to Norwich (see my allegiances). I would not have posted Norwich as an answer if the question had said that matches in ANY competition were what you were after 'cause I knew Carlisle was the answer to that question. The phrasing suggested (to me and a lot of others) that it was League matches you were asking about. Ipswich are in a different league (in more ways than one ) from Norwich as are their other local (ish) rivals Colchester and Cambridge.
I generally only nitpick with spelling, honest
