What kind of sand do you have to use to prevent sulphate attack on mortars?

I think the type of sand is unlikely to be a factor. I did a little research on this subject when I was a student a long time ago, but the problem is caused by bacteria, called Thiobacillus, which generate sulphates as a by-product of their growth. I'm sure you could find the latet research somewhere on the net

Actually, no - sulphate attacks on concrete isn't my cup of tea, but I wanted to steer that researcher to the proper place. This page is set up as a welcome and most of the community doesn't get around here too often. If you want to start chatting with people, you might want to go to http://www.h2g2.com/askh2g2
Or you could go to the assistant community editors personal space at http://www.h2g2.com/Aces and start a convo there.
By the way, no one can properly say hello to you until you put something on your home page. All you need to do is click the edit button and type in a simple hello and I'm sure you'll be greeted by all kinds of people willing to talk about whatever interests you.
Cheers!

I deal in water and wastewater, or as we call it 'New and Used Water'. Sewage will form an acid-vapor that 'eat' concrete in open areas of a sewer. I don't know if this is what you mean by 'attack' but in sewage, its as close as you get.
Key: Complain about this post
