Hanging Up The Towel

I was startled out of my daily routine when a good friend and fellow fan sent me the worst email I've ever received. I've read and loved Douglas Adams' books since I was a youth and am distraught to find that he has made his permanent reservation at the Restaurant at the End of the Universe. As a fellow Hitchhiker, I've always been comforted by the fact that I wasn't the only one to see the world through unfiltered eyes. The laughs, the tragedies, the humor, the blindness, the ever persistent state of SEP (somebody elses' problem) that blankets our societies - these were all comfortably translated into the few pages of the Hitchhiker novels. To know now that the person responsible for The Guide will no longer be providing endless giggles and snickers - well, it's more terrible than I ever imagined.
To his family I can only offer my heartfelt empathy and condolences. The loss in your lives cannot compare to the new lack in mine, but all the thoughts of love and comfort I can muster are yours for the asking. Keep well, he will be remembered fondly.

"The Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy is a wholly remarkable book. It has been compiled and recompiled many times and under many different editorships. It contains contributions from countless numbers of travellers and researchers."
