I first became aware of H2G2 when I heard a trailer for a new radio show. I was intrigued by the snippit and subsequently listened to the first program (on a valve radio set!). It stirred something in me, the mix of Sci-Fi and humour unlike anything before and the memory of that first program stays with me. The next 5 programmes built on this with thought provoking statements (are the mice really experimenting on us?). I couldn't wait for the second radio series which developed the theme further. The following books showed more of the same sideways look on life.

DNA was able to look on life differently from the rest of us but through his work it helped some of us to glimse this world as he did. His genius will be missed, mostly by his family but also by his fans.

Thank you for sharing your vision with us

I too remember the first episodes on radio 4 but more important to me is the effect that this man and these books had on my son. Philip is seriously dyslexic and had no interest in books because reading them was so difficult, then one wet day on holiday I bought him a tape of the guide to listen to on his personal stereo he listened to it for hours, over and over again, and when he found it was a reading from a book he left no stone unturned until he got hold of all the books, they remain somwe of hias favourites, he judges people by whether they know the answer to life the universe and everything , and on a comments slip in a restaurant last year he wrote "so long and thanks for all the food" so the books changed his life, and made him a reader, fired his imagination and made him realise he was not not the only person in the world with a strange sense of humour
