Impossible to believe the sad news about DNA. Still, I hope that now the big guy will finally get to check out the Restaurant at the End of the Universe and figure out what's up with Life, the Universe and, well Everything. Heck, he'll probably stop by Level 42 while he's at it.
Okay, okay, enough of that rubbish. I apologize for even attempting humor. It's best left to professionals. Like DNA. I just wanted to say that I have read, and thoroughly enjoyed, the Hitchhiker books, the Dirk Gently adventures, Starship Titanic, and Last Chance to See. I was really hoping that the ever-expanding Hitchhiker trilogy was going to see the addition of at least four or five more volumes. I guess more than anything, I was just hoping that I'd be able to enjoy new DNA for a long time to come. But I won't now. But that's okay, too. I'll go back and re-read the classics and, shoot, I've lost so many brain cells since I first read them, they'll probably seem new to me anyway.
As sad as his passing is for his fans, I think the saddest part of all this is that he leaves behind a wife and daughter. My deepest sympathies and condolences to them.
Bon voyage, Douglas. Yours was a rare gift that will be sorely missed on this, mostly harmless, speck in the universe.

"The Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy is a wholly remarkable book. It has been compiled and recompiled many times and under many different editorships. It contains contributions from countless numbers of travellers and researchers."
