I was shocked and saddened to read of Douglas Adams passing. I read the H2G2 series years ago when it was first released in paperbound.
I was recently reintroduced to his work thru Michael Nesmith's website VIDEORANCH. I contacted Mr. Adams thru his former site and always recieved a kind reply.
I would like to extend my condolences to his wife and daughter on his passing.

This was heartbreaking
What kind of mind could have a vast interplanetary invasion fleet,
by a vast miscalculation of scale, cross the Universe to be swallowed
by a dog?
We shall miss Douglas Adams

Here was a man who thought outside of the box. His work should be required reading in Schools...

Douglas Adams was the first writer to truly capture my imagination it was his books that really started my passion for reading. It is always the norm to speak well of the dead but with Douglas I can honestly say he was a great author who has provided entertainment to millions through his writings.
I would like his family to know there are thousands of us ordinary people who are thinking of you in your sad time. Although nothing we can do will make things better, maybe the knowledge that although he has left this world he has done what so few people in their lifetime manage, he made other people laugh and be happy through his own creativity.
The thought of Arthur Dent walking around the universe wearing his pyjamas and dressing gown makes me smile even today.

I agree entirely, it is not often that we as an entire human race are blessed with such a personage. Adams' vast knowledge of scientific theory and his unique, often irreverant sense of humor made him one of the most entertaining and informative authors to date. We will all miss him dearly but he left us a wealth of words and ideas. The legacy of the h2g2 series, the holistic detective agency, and all that his boundless imagination was responsible for will live on as a testament.

Douglas Adams lived with me through The Book through my teenage years, and into my adult life. He introduced me to 'adult' humour, and can only thank him for it. It was about 1980 when I first read the first book, borrowed from a friend, and completed within hours. Then I suppose it was a little like Harry Potter is today. Aged 13, many of us read it from cover to cover very quickly, and it was the subject of many a youthful discussion. I think we even tried to write an imitation guide once!
I picked up the radio play again last week, after 2 or 3 years, and listened once again to fits the first and second. I had planned to read the book again as soon as I can find it and this is now a priority!
Farewell Douglas - I have been going through my mind to remember some of the wonderful prose you gave us, but nothing fits yet.
I hope the restaurant is just as good as you imagined it to be. Oh - has anyone checked - are the Dolphins still with us? Did Douglas know something we don't, and what is that yellow machine overhead...!

I'm quite depressed of the news, as I have just heard...Being in a poetically depressed mood, I figure I might as well just put a paper bag over my head or something. Something, it is! Mr. Adams, this poem is my a tribute of five minutes of my time, miniscule to the hundreds of hours I have spent reading, watching, and listening to all of your work.
I feel like I have known you long;
Share and enjoy was such a very good song.
There really is not much for me to do.
Just sittin' 'round admirin' forty-two.
You've been quite influential thoughout these years to me,
Though I have only be around for twenty minus three.
I think I'l honor your memory,
I'll watch the movie, won't even get up to pee.
I'll post some information, your mind I'll harness
I'll do all I can on this planet you named "Mostly Harmless"
