Ah, my first day as Researcher #10734318 and I couldn't resist trying this out. I believe I followed the rules; hopefully my math is correct... 
(10-7)+((34-3)*1))+8

Don't forget the Order of Operations: Parentheses, Exponents, Multiplication, Division, Addition, and Subtraction (PEMDAS). Without parentheses, 1*0+7*3+4*3+1+8=84. However (1*0)+(7*3)+(4*3)+1+8 by simplifying to 0+21+12+1+8=42. Thanks for opening my eyes to another combination; wonder how many more we can find...

I didn't forget them
As there are neither parentheses nor exponents, the order of operations is multiplications then additions
1*0+7*3+4*3+1+8 = (1*0)+(7*3)+(4*3)+1+8 = 0+21+12+1+8=42
