A Conversation for Babylon 5

Sue

Just wondered if you intended to mention any of these - esp the early comics, contained very large chuncks of story arc.

Good job so far btw - I really don't envy you this *huge* project.

In the first instance I wasn't intending to mention either the books or comics. As a 'TV purist' I argue that Babylon 5 consists of the televised material. Contents of the comics (I haven't read any of them) and the books (I've only read a few) are additional to, and not a part of the plot. However once I've completed this I might create links to other articles on the associated gubbins.

You are right this is a big project and any help would be appreciated.

I know what you mean about being a tv purist, I was pretty much that way until towards the end of season 4, when it began to look likely season 5 would not happen. Once JMS said he'd finish the story one way or another, I decided then I'd better catch up on what went before in the comics... sorry they're 'graphic novels' now...

So, if you need anything on the early graphic novels, the films or any of the books (#1-9, the Psi Corps and Centauri triologies and the first of the Technomage triology (only just out) just shout. Oh, & I've also got the US only special edition (TNT) release of The Gathering. Yes, I'm a sad addict! smiley - winkeye

BTW, something that may help you, do you know the lurkers guide website? If not, shout, I'll put the URL on my page.

Sue,

Thanks. I'm already familiar with the lurker's guide. My intention here is to put up a very brief 'skeleton' outline of my article and then use sources like tLG (and rewatching the episodes in order) to flesh out the details at a later date.

Hi Zatras, Sue,

Thanx for the link to Londo Zathras.

I am currently collecting all the BAB-5videos. So far I have all the four movies, BAB-5 season 4 and the complete 'Crusade" (that's only one season sadly enough). Shazz is in England atm and she will probably come back with BAB-5 season 3. So I will be over halfway there...

If you need info about season4 just contact me. As I think it is by far the best season(personal opinion, nothing else), I am/have been studying it into some detail.

I am a mad raving Fan of Babylon Five and Have been since it first Aired on Channel 4. I just happen to think it is the finest and most creative piece of TV Sci-Fi ever written.

I have read both the Psi Corp and Centauri trilogies and am waiting with baited breath for the second of the Technomage books.

All the trilogies contain major story arc and were all sanctioned by JMS who wrote the rough guide before handing it to the authors for them to flesh out.

Well done for attempting this entry to the Guide. I will keep a keen eye on it!

Unfortunately I've made even less progress than the small amount I was hoping to make. Please do keep an eye on the entry and feel absolutly free to argue with anything I say and make any suggestions.

See my other post Zathras.

Perhaps we should start collaborating our efforts. For instance : you do the seasons and I do the characters et al...?

Good idea.

I'll switch to doing a plot summary of the 'arc' and leave the characters to you.

Perhaps somebody else would like to volunteer to do the 'Races', although that may fit into your character examples better.

Yes indeed,

it won't be a problem writing about the species in the character-descriptions. I think we need a summary of the story-arc as well as a summary per season. Basically just like you say it on your page. What might work very well is to not so much describe everything seen in the series, but to describe the "general Feel' of a season. Something like :

Season 1 : getting to know the characters who get to know each other, and setting up the initial story-arc.

Season 2 : Build-up of conflict between Narn and Centauri, replacement of Sinclair by Sheridan, etcetera.

Season 3 : The Coming Of Shadows. The escalation of the problems back home on Earth and Mars.

Season 4 : The War to end all Wars, as well as the toppling of the Earth regime and the liberation of Mars.

Season 5 : The Aftermath of the War, Telepath-problems/uprising, closure of all story-arcs and setting up one or two new ones for possible next series(which later became Crusade of course).

The Movies : When are they situated(the chronological order), story-line, impact on series, in some cases a spoiler-warning(for instance A Call To Arms).

Seems a good idea. However I an swamped at work ATM so don't expect to see much progress before July I'm afraid. I will try to do at least something in June however but it won't be much.
