Keeps you in touch with the people who matter to you. You can read what they are doing, thinking and planning. You can post a link to a photo you've taken, or a website you like. You can recieve news posts from all the media-tweets or just a select few. You can re-tweet other people's posts immediately, so your group can pick it up quickly. And you can do all this from any phone or any PC. The postings are chronologically organised on one page, with powerful search tools.
You don't have to write an essay to post, like a blog, so you are motivated to use it little and often. The discipline of keeping it all to 140 characters is a welcome one, both for the reader and the writer.
