Religion appears to me to be a very sensitive issue. Some people will kill, maim and torture people who do not believe in the same things as them. Generally this goes AGAINST their religion, making them hypocrits. On the flip side, some people have nothing to do with religion, and yet they claim to be part of such and such.
Religion is a growing area of human psychology. It's all about believing in something, and using this to guide your life. Most religions will cause mass devestation when mixed together - even if they are very similar. A prime example of this would be the protestant / catholic conflicts in Northern Ireland.
Religion is often also used as an excuse; People kill because they don't agree with something another person said.
