I had hoped to visit England this year. Not a chance now.
Although you haven't made any such connection, vegiman, do you suppose there is any connection between the spread of the hoof and mouth disease and the kind of weather you've been having?

I had made that connection but as I have no scientific proof and there does not seem to be any reports elsewhere. I thought I'd leave it for others to perhaps make the connection.
As for visiting - it is quite safe, honest. Where I live in Kent there has not as yet been an outbreak. Well just one on the isle of grain. Most cases are being reported in midlands. So as long as you do not do any farm path walks, y'd be OK.

Yeh, that's another industry that would appear to be suffering from Foot and Mouth. My parents produce Tartan Tat to sell to gullible American tourists (no offense ) and they just can't sell anything to shops at the moment. The only place (that I know of in Scotland) that has F&M is Dumfries but everywhere is being tarred with the same brush in the minds of potential tourists. Probably doen't help that it happened at the "Booking" time of year. But hey, where else you going to go? And I'm going to the US this summer, so I'll be bringing it with me anyway

Would you look at that, you've shocked the wee person in the bottom right corner with that.
Anyway, I was most likely sterilised by a large magnet yonks ago.

That large magnet would only have degaussed you. Be prepared for sterner treatment from Customs.

Hehe
I'm hoping to visit my daughter on the IoW... I believe that I will also have to go through stringent proceedures before being allowed onto the island!
The downside here in Holland is that they have stopped all milk transportation also, so I can no longer be English and put milk in my early morning cuppa
